These photos were taken in 2018 when I had the honor of serving as a chaperone while my daughter was a member of the District 5 Honors Chorus for their trip to Washington, DC. Visiting Arlington National Cemetery was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. Seeing row after row of headstones is a powerful reminder of the true cost of freedom.

Today, Team Julie Z for SC honors the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who never made it home and reflect on the freedoms their courage helped protect.

We also remember and honor the families who carry that sacrifice with them every single day. Their strength and sacrifice should never be forgotten.

May we always remember the true meaning of this day. 🇺🇸

Mother’s Day can bring joy, gratitude, love and for some, grief, longing, or pain. Today, we celebrate mothers and all who nurture others, while also holding space for those who may be hurting.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s talk about it.

For too long, mental health has been pushed into the shadows. It’s time to end the stigma and recognize that mental health care is essential health care.

South Carolina faces serious challenges when it comes to access. In too many communities, especially rural and underserved areas, finding a licensed therapist is difficult or nearly impossible. No family should have to drive hours, sit on waiting lists, or go without care because of where they live. We must end these mental health deserts.

That means recruiting and retaining more mental health professionals, expanding access to care, and investing in programs in our schools and communities. When students have counselors and support services, they are more likely to succeed academically and emotionally. When families can access care early, crises can be prevented before they escalate. When communities have strong mental health resources, we see lower rates of substance abuse, homelessness, incarceration, domestic violence, and emergency room overuse.

As a licensed therapist and candidate for SC House District 71, expanding and funding mental health services will be one of my top priorities when elected. Investing in mental health creates safer neighborhoods, healthier families, stronger schools, and a more productive workforce.

Mental health touches everything. If we want stronger communities, we must start here.

I’m running for State House because South Carolinians deserve leadership that puts people before politics.

We need strong public schools, safer roads, improved access to mental healthcare, clean water, protected lands and wildlife, and affordable living. Our state is worth fighting for and we need new leadership NOW!

I'm fighting for women's rights. I'm fighting for our civil rights and liberties to be upheld. I'm fighting to make sure our tax dollars are used wisely to benefit our lives. I believe government should focus on real solutions. Enough with lawmakers creating division and political games.
It's time for some common sense and compassion.

What an amazing weekend! From attending an amazing candidate training on Saturday and Sunday to coming together to help feed our neighbors Sunday afternoon, making a difference in South Carolina is my passion and purpose.

I want to thank everyone who came out to help and support Irmo Neighbors helping Neighbors food and supply drive. From food drives, to blessing box projects, to backpack programs for kids and making sure our seniors are fed, we will continue to work on projects to help feed our neighbors throughout the Irmo Community and District 71.
