Lace map
This lace map of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England is the work of Honiton lace artist Doreen Creed.
Honiton lace is a type of bobbin lace originating in Honiton, Devon, England. Historical Honiton lace designs focused on scrollwork and depictions of natural objects such as flowers and leaves.
Honiton lace constructed in parts - complex patterns are created separately and then sewn into the net ground of the piece.
The art of making lace is rumored to have been brought to Honiton, England by Flemish refugees in the mid-to-late 1500s.
Honiton lace faced a resurgence in the 1840 when Queen Victoria used the lace on her wedding dress.
