If your fluorescent bulbs start to flicker or go out completely, then you might want to consider upgrading to LED tubes. They last for 50,000 hours, which is about 40 years of normal use! They also use only 18W of electricity which saves you money!

There are simple one for one swaps (Type A, Direct Replacement) that work with your current ballast, but the most efficient and long-lasting are Type-B, Ballast Bypass bulbs. To use these you need to remove the ballast (the thing that regulates the power to make the fluorescent lights work...also the thing that makes the annoying buzzing sound as the ballast ages) and do a simple rewiring of the light fixture.
