The United States Federal Government is attempting to quietly attack your right to access federal buildings through the Department of Energy’s Dockets DOE-HQ-2025-0015 and DOE-HQ-2025-0024. They are attempting to do away with anti- discrimination requirements from Section 504 which is the pillar of anti-discrimination legislator for disabled people in the USA. This is a direct attack on your civil liberties, your rights, and the rights of millions of Disabled Americans.
But there is something you can do to stop this. Comments are open on the dockets until June 16, 2025. Go to the dockets and leave your thoughts. Personally, we will be telling the federal government that our rights to access federal buildings and anti-discrimation is not on the table.

Service Delivery Update: We are all VIRTUAL for the next new months! After a period of consideration, it was decided that all of our occupational therapy, coaching and consultation services will be primarily virtual for the foreseeable future.
As we operate primarily from a client-driven, neurodiversity-affirming, and strengths-based practice, we have seen just as much benefit to our clients being virtual as we do in-person services. Services will be taking place via phone, Zoom or other platform agreed upon by the therapist and family. This greatly expands our care circle for OT services to anyone in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Coaching services can be delivered to anyone in the USA or beyond.

It’s been long overdue since I shared myself on here! My name is Janine I am the founder of Rhoads to Independence! In addition to that I am a neurodiversity affirming, strengths based occupational therapist and client driven Coach! I love working with people and empowering them to meet their goals.
Some things I love to do are spend time with my family, there are many of us, garden, hang out with my pets and advocate for disability inclusion and belonging. I’m a disabled and neurodivergent OT with a few different conditions that disable me. I have worked with on ways to include disabled OTPs and am working with them on a bigger project right now surrounding addressing the ableism that is so rampant in our profession. I’m very excited to be a small piece in changing OT for the better.
When not working or at home you can find me taking classes for my Doctorate in OT. I am a research Fellow and won a Craig H. Nielsen Grant that enables me to bring my unique perspective to the science field. My interest areas are around coaching, chronic illness, disability and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It’s been amazing working with the research team and learning from them. I look forward to bringing EDS to the table for more studies into alternative and empowering treatments for the community.
