At our last CMB retreat, comrades from Community Movement Builders Dallas x CMB Oakland gave us all the game on Organizing.
Disability justice organizing is a framework that centers the leadership of multiply marginalized disabled folks (including q***r folks, people of color, and the unhoused) to address interconnected systems of oppression. Ie: , , and .
The comrades gave testimony to their own personal struggles and also introduced us to disability justice orgs, already doing the work, like Sins Invalid.
Their work explores themes of disabled embodiment and the world around us, developing provocative work where paradigms of “normal” and “disabled” are challenged, offering instead a vision of beauty and justice inclusive of all bodies and communities.
They have created the 10-Principles of Disability Justice which are:
1. Intersectionality
2. Leadership of the MOST IMPACTED
3. Anti-capitalist politic
4. Commitment to cross movement organizing
5. Recognizing wholeness
6. Sustainability
7. Commitment to cross disability solidarity
8. Interdependence
9. Collective access
10. Collective liberation
