Khor Baraka discharges nearly 560 million cubic meters of water annually, most of which runs off to the Red Sea. Khor Arbaat and nearby smaller wadis also discharge a significant amount of water into the Red Sea. It is mind-boggling that this region receives ample precipitation but remains dry, uninhabitable, and suffers from water scarcity. Simple rock dams along major mountainous watersheds will trap water, transforming the region, recharging aquifers for thousands of years, and controlling heatwaves.
