During labor, we will often have the laboring woman sit on what we call the “dilation station” aka the toilet. This position is great for helping labor to progress especially if labor has stalled or is taking a bit longer. This position also helps by allowing gravity to work with mother to pull that baby down. It may even provide relief, allowing mama to get a little rest in between contractions. The baby is able to more easily navigate the pelvis, which means that you’ll meet your baby sooner rather than later. You can do this whether you’re having a hospital birth or homebirth. Wherever there’s a toilet, you have a dilation station.
Have you used the dilation station before? How did it impact your labor/birth experience? Give other expectant moms some inspiration. 👇🏾
The 6 week postpartum visit is such a bittersweet moment. Yes, all good things must come to an end, but sometimes we wish we could be with clients forever.
This family was such a joy to work with. Babygirl is only 6 weeks and she’s already so attentive and even has her “newborn crawling” going on. We’re going to miss them.
As a student midwife, I’m so glad I was able to be a part of this journey with them.
We all come from different worlds but we have one thing in common and that’s becoming competent midwives in order to better birth outcomes for women that look like us. This sisterhood is bonded for a lifetime. God willing, we will stay together throughout this journey. 🧡
To all the supportive partners out there, you are appreciated. Having your presence in the birth space does more for your partner than you can ever know. You’re needed. Always, in all ways.
y mama, it’s your choice on how and where to deliver your baby. Just know that a larger baby does not automatically mean you’ll have to have a c-section. Don’t be afraid, your baby will do just fine navigating their way out. 🤍
There’s nothing easy about labor. It’s work. That’s why it’s called “labor”. But with prayer, preparation, a supportive partner and trained birth team, you can do this.
And she’s known for having precipitous births too! 😅
Midwives, birth assists, and doulas. I know you get it.
Birth is one of the most beautiful things. And still, there’s another side to it that we’d prefer not to engage. Embracing the duality of birth is what shapes us into the warrior women that we become. Remember, you can do hard things. Your body was made for this. 🤍
Midwifery care centers the whole family. These moments will be cherished for the rest of their lives. All of the sisters and the family puppy were present for the labor and birth of this new addition. The immediate postpartum was full of love and hands-on experience.
We love to see it! 🥹
Oftentimes, fathers don’t know what to do when the mother of their child is in labor. Though he may wish he could take the pain away, he can’t.
One of the greatest things you can do as a father is be there, in totality. Mind, body and spirit. Be present with her. Listen to what she’s communicating. Verbally and nonverbally. Anticipate her needs. Hold her hand, caress her. Be there.
This dad did an amazing job coaching his wife and catching their baby. You can see how in tune they were with eachother.
