When you plant a seed, sometimes you don’t know where it will find purchase. I like this one page idea from Durango. I’m listening to the reading and thinking….”not bad”.
Listen as , author and waste management expert, Duncan Watson Storyteller, takes you on a tour of trash – telling the stories behind the 1.6 billion pounds of garbage that we collectively throw away EVERY DAY 😮 >> https://tinyurl.com/y26px8kf > https://tinyurl.com/49umh8sd

I think this may resonate with the golden folks I’ll be visiting with over at RiverWoods, in Durham, NH on Friday at 10am…
In this complex world we live in with all the environmental issues that seem out of control, recycling is a positive action you can take that does make a difference.
Recycling and composting land in the Golden Rule category. They belong in the same league as:
✔️ Opening doors for people
✔️ Saying please and thank you
✔️ And letting someone go before you in the checkout line.
Besides the economic arguments and the environmental benefits, recycling is the right thing to do.
Since 1994, the Recycling Center I oversee in has processed over 250 million pounds of recycling and many millions of pounds of compost.
We’ve sent out over 6,000 tractor-trailers of recyclable material which, lined up end to end, would stretch 62 miles.
AND the city has generated over 10 million in recycling revenue 😮 and avoided over $25 million in disposal costs (if those recyclables had simply been discarded).
This level of impact is available to EVERY community if you pull together to make it happen! 💪 Let’s make “Everyone’s Trash” work harder for the benefit of all.
So join us Friday morning at RiverWoods. Or if you can’t make it, send me a message and I’ll get you a signed copy.

Happy Earth Day! I’m particularly excited because I get to talk trash with the town of at the Wendell Free Library TODAY at 6:30pm!
Right now, waste management is a real slug. That’s why, I’m traveling to libraries near and far to share at-hand solutions that change the way we look at waste for communities to rally around.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, they say, and no more so than when a waste stream becomes a highly valued commodity. How is this possible? Technological advances that streamline acquisition, storing, and sorting systems.
I’ll walk you through the possibilities and make you laugh in the process!
Share your trash tales with me TODAY, Tuesday April 22nd at the at 6:30pm.

, I’m headed to your town to TALK TRASH! I’m on a crusade to spread the news: today’s technology could increase recycling rates to over 80%! Optical, density, mechanical and human sort systems are spearheading a recycling revolution via communities coming together and cleaning up their dumps.
Ask me how at the Newfields Town Hall TODAY, Wednesday, April 16th at 6:30pm!
My award-winning memoir, “Everyone’s Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds,” details the future of waste management, artfully woven with humorous stories from my life at the dump. It’s a gas!

Did you know recycling is more popular than democracy? It’s true, on a daily basis more people participate in recycling than vote. I think this is because recycling has been integrated into our culture.
We don’t think about it much. For most, it’s a simple chore among many, but it is part of the routine. There’s still a long way to go.
Some time ago, I did a waste audit in Keene to see how much recyclable material was making its way into the dump.
Do you think you could hug 142K trees? That’s the equivalent of all the thrown away paper I counted.
Earth Day is right around the corner and there are lots of ideas out there to increase recycling and decrease littering and backyard burning.
- I’ll be sharing mine at theTracy Public Library Tracy Friends of the Library TODAY @ 5:30pm!

Love a great story? Listen in to my interview with Antioch University New England Professor, Michael Simpson, as we delve into my personal trash journey!
Professor Simpson is the Director of the Resource Management and Administration graduate program at Antioch University New England, in Keene, NH, the same program I earned my master’s in.
To be honest, the primary reason I pursued the career I did was his influence. Along with writing “Everyone’s Trash,” I have worked at the US EPA and for the last 30 + years, for the City of Keene. NH’s Dept. of Public Works.
During that time, I was honored with a Recycler of the Year Award and inducted into the “Hall of Fame” by the Northeast Resource Recovery Association.

Watch out - I’m excited to be TALKING TRASH right in my own town.
The very essence of this book is to celebrate the social gathering point that is the dump.
There you see your friends, neighbors, dentist, lawyer, teacher, political official, out of uniform, doing a chore common to almost all of us, and it binds us in ways that make the affection towards the dump and its experiences palpable.
It’s a critical piece of our social fabric, a part of our social contract. In your honest commitment to responsibly deal with your waste, I believe you’d like to do better than today’s 25%-35% recycling rates.
Today’s technology could increase that to over 80% with optical, density, mechanical and human sort systems. Sounds outrageous? Truth: it will take a hard push. But it IS possible. It’s all in “Everyone’s Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds.”💪
Ask me how at the Walpole Town Library on April 3rd at 5pm!
I am making waves across the region so if Walpole’s not your jam, stay tuned. But if you can’t wait, send me a message and I’ll get you a signed copy.

Heads up Community! I’ll be talking about the future of waste management at YOUR Seabrook Library on April 1st at 5:30pm.
In the near future, we are going to look back on our 25%-35% recycling rates and LAUGH at the clumsy way we handled our discards. There have been glimpses of what the future holds:
♻️ Single-stream recycling plants.
♻️ Mechanical sorting systems.
♻️ Paper and containers transported efficiently, together.
♻️ Organic matter in the mix!
A little ways down the road, we WILL put all our discards in one bin, collected by one truck to be processed through optical, density, mechanical and human separation.
Imagine this - those individual components will comprise raw material for manufacturing NEW products on the same “campus.”
The technology is here for communities to rally around! Empower “Everyone’s Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds.”💪
