Baby Ant’s progress hasn’t been going so well. Since September he’s been battling Juvenile Psoriatic Arthritis and Uveitis. Uveitis has been his toughest battle as it’s affecting his vision. He now tells us he just sees “black” with his left eye. He doesn’t see blurry or shadows anymore just black. Everyday is a constant battle, but it’s the beginning of a long journey.

I share this because it’s made me take a step back and just reflect. I’ve always pushed my children a little harder holding them to a higher standard with very few moments of just watching them play. I’ve learned a lot about Baby Ant during all this and it has taught me many things. It has taught me that there’s a time to coach and a time to just be a dad. To sit back and watch them fail and succeed. To take the good, the bad, and the ugly and be thankful for each moment because they are all opportunities to learn something new.

Enjoy the moments you get to watch your children play or do something they enjoy because you truly never know when it’s the last time. Things can change in an instant.

Be patient with them especially if they are young. They will bloom.

I know it’s easier said than done, but don’t take anything for granted. Live in the moment and soak it all in.

We have a long journey ahead of us but we are up for the fight. I know Baby Ant is. Some days are better than others but we will continue pushing forward.
