Music for Holy Communion: "All Souls Mass" 11/26/2025

In the service of Holy Communion, there are songs and prayers that are sung every week. These are called "service music" or in older times they were called a "mass setting."

The service music we sing most Sundays of the year, the "All Souls Mass," was written by our music director, John Caddell. Today, we're happy to share a recording of his setting!

This piece uses the exact language of The Book of Common Prayer (2019), making it especially suitable for parishes in the ACNA.

John is now publishing music on YouTube and his website, johncaddellmusic.com. You can follow him on those pages and sign up for his mailing list if you want to hear when he puts out new music.

We hope you enjoy the All Souls Mass!

Happy Feast of St. Michael and All Angels! Our men kicked off the feast last night with our second annual Michaelmas Oktoberfest, with an actual feast, games, and a devotional from Brice Palm on the work of God through the angels around us. What an absolute blast!

Baptism and the Cross go together with the same promise: new life through death with Jesus (Romans 6). This past Sunday we were so excited to welcome Bliss Kincaid into the fellowship of Christ’s church through Holy Baptism as well as pray for our local chapter of the Daughters of the Holy Cross. May the Lord bless these all of these wonderful women and give them grace to take up the their cross and follow Jesus and find it none other than the way of life and peace!

At this table, Jesus throws a feast of grace with sinners—with those who could never pay him back. As General Löwenhielm from Babette’s Feast reminds us:

“We tremble before making our choice in life, and after having made it again tremble in fear of having chosen wrong. But the moment comes when our eyes our opened, and we see and realize that grace is infinite. Grace, my friends, demands nothing from us but that we shall await it with confidence and acknowledge it in thanksgiving. Grace, brothers and sisters, makes no conditions and singles out none of us in particular; grace takes us all to its bosom and proclaims general amnesty…For mercy and truth have met together, and righteousness and bliss have kissed one another.”
