Validation is the most underrated treatment in medicine.
On yesterday's episode of Bendy Bodies, Dr. Linda Bluestein and Dr. Dacre Knight (UVA Health) discuss one of the simplest yet most powerful things a clinician can offer a patient: believing them.
As Dr. Knight points out, patients have already paid for the appointment. Validation doesn't cost anything.
Saying, "I hear you." "I believe you." Those words don't replace medical treatment, but they often create the foundation that makes meaningful treatment possible.
When patients feel heard, trust grows. And with that trust comes the opportunity for better conversations, stronger partnerships, and more effective care.
Validation isn't the end of treatment. Often, it's where treatment truly begins.
Have you ever had a healthcare provider make you feel truly heard? What did they do that made the biggest difference?
