Meet John S. Foster Jr. Undergraduate Fellow Olive Colfelt, a rising senior at Wichita State University majoring in Physics with minors in Mathematics, University Honors, and Japanese. This summer at LLNL, Olive will work on critical aspects of direct drive wetted foam inertial confinement fusion schemes -- helping figure out how to perfectly crush a laser-blasted, foam-filled fuel capsule to help unlock limitless fusion energy.

Fun Fact: Olive has visited 7 different countries and will make it 8 by the end of the year!

Earlier this month, LLF was proud to support the 3rd Annual University of California ALS Workshop: Reinvigorating Innovation in ALS! This interdisciplinary workshop brought together physicians, researchers, engineers, DOE National Laboratories, industry partners, patient advocates, and people living with ALS—to collaborate and accelerate critical research and development at scale. Kudos to Amy Gryshuk, Nick Fischer and the entire planning team for their incredible leadership in hosting another successful gathering!

On Day One, LLF Executive Director Sally Allen joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory colleagues and industry partners for a panel on strategic partnerships. We're honored to partner with ALS CURE Project, ALS Network and others to help support dedicated LLNL researchers like Priyadip Ray, Alan Kaplan, Crystal Jaing, Aram Avila-Herrera, and others who are applying the Lab's unique bioscience, bioengineering, and high-performance computing capabilities to advance progress in this important research area.
