The transition phase is the โhandoffโ of the countermovement jump.
Itโs the exact moment the athlete stops moving down and has to reverse direction back up.
Velocity hits ZERO.
Everything from that point forward depends on how well the athlete can:
โข Control the position
โข Stay organized under load
โข Transition efficiently
โข Reverse direction into takeoff
If an athlete struggles here, youโll often see:
โข Loss of stiffness
โข Excessive movement variability
โข Delayed transition timing
โข Power leaks during takeoff
โข Increased asymmetries side-to-side
This is why we donโt just care about jump height.
We care about how the athlete moves through the entire strategy of the jump.
Two athletes may jump the same height but look completely different when you break down the movement.
