The transition phase is the โ€œhandoffโ€ of the countermovement jump.

Itโ€™s the exact moment the athlete stops moving down and has to reverse direction back up.

Velocity hits ZERO.

Everything from that point forward depends on how well the athlete can:
โ€ข Control the position
โ€ข Stay organized under load
โ€ข Transition efficiently
โ€ข Reverse direction into takeoff

If an athlete struggles here, youโ€™ll often see:
โ€ข Loss of stiffness
โ€ข Excessive movement variability
โ€ข Delayed transition timing
โ€ข Power leaks during takeoff
โ€ข Increased asymmetries side-to-side

This is why we donโ€™t just care about jump height.

We care about how the athlete moves through the entire strategy of the jump.

Two athletes may jump the same height but look completely different when you break down the movement.
