2013 War Could Have Been Avoided if President Kiir Had Allowed SPLM to Elect Its Flag Bearer – Nhial Deng Nhial Reveals

The 2013 war could have been avoided if President Salva Kiir had accepted the SPLM Party’s proposal to elect its flag bearer for the 2015 elections, Nhial Deng Nhial has revealed.

Nhial explained that the split within the SPLM occurred after President Kiir rejected three key demands presented by Dr. Riek Machar, including holding a national convention to democratically choose the party’s presidential candidate.

He added that after the dismissal of several senior SPLM members, he lost faith in the party’s direction, saying, “That was when I lost hope in the SPLM, and I realized the President would not be able to restore the party to its former strength.” Nhial Deng Nhial Chairman of South Sudan Salvation movement SSSM.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐎𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟐𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday traveled to the United Arab Emirates on an official diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

‎In a brief statement before the President's departure, Press Secretary Ambassador David Amuor Majur, says while in Abu Dhabi, President Kiir is expected to meet with Emirati officials, to discuss expanding trade partnerships, and woo investors to come and explore the available investment opportunities in the Republic of South Sudan.

‎Ambassador Amuor said the visit highlighs the commitment of the two nations to deepening relations and pursuing shared goals in economic development and sustainable growth.
