It's been a while since I last posted here—life has certainly kept me busy! Between a hectic summer work schedule and recovering from surgery and being at different art events this week

I'm finally getting back into my art. I'm thrilled that it's fall again, a season that fills me with joy as I embrace my favorite tradition of illustrating cats with pumpkins.

This year, I'm excited to use my new Holbein watercolor set of 6, which features a beautiful array of autumn colors that are just perfect for the season.

While I’m focusing on just one cat this time, I want to make sure Mr. Whiskers truly stands out. I still need to add some finishing details and a background, but he’s almost complete!

I usually don't focus on realism, but I had a great time creating this sparrow with colored pencils.

Interestingly, it took me 8 hours and 22 colored pencils to complete this piece.

This year, I'm challenging myself to focus on more realistic drawing, and naturally, my first subject will be a bird, as they are my favorite to illustrate.

Here’s a reminder for all the artists out there: it’s perfectly fine to step away. You can return to it later. I can’t count how many times I’ve taken a break from this owl when I felt like giving up for good.

Color pencils might take a bit longer to work with, but the results are totally worth it.
