As the sun dropped behind Boxley Valley, elk bugled across the fields — but something else answered. Campers swore they saw a massive silhouette rise from the Buffalo River, chest fur dripping, tail gleaming. Merilla beat his chest in perfect rhythm with the elk calls, like nature’s weirdest drumline. One tourist claimed he even took a bow before diving back into the glowing current.

Eyewitnesses claim Merilla was spotted cruising through town in a slammed 1966 Chevy service truck with Merilla Electric splashed across the door.
• One witness swore they saw him behind the wheel, radio blasting “Electric Avenue” ….a little too loud.
• Another reported he was knee-deep in someone’s electrical panel, carefully separating neutrals — no charge, just because he likes things organized.
