Alright. Hot button policing topic.

Police pursuits.

Seems like every week now there’s another video of either:

A suspect running from police at 120 mph through traffic…

OR…

A department terminating the pursuit immediately and people in the comments saying:

“So we just let criminals drive away now?”

And honestly I get BOTH sides.

Because if police chase…

people say it’s too dangerous.

If police DON’T chase…

people say cops are weak and criminals know they can just flee.

Meanwhile officers are trying to make that decision in about 1.7 seconds while somebody in a Nissan Altima with no rear bumper is actively testing the laws of physics through downtown traffic.

So what do YOU think?

A:
Pursuits should happen more often. If someone runs, go get them. Georgia style of chase and PIT anything that runs, including motorcycles is a go. All departments’ command staff should be like Chief Bradley Taylor. He would never terminate a chase.

OR

B:
Too dangerous most of the time. Get them later.

And before somebody comments:
“Just shoot the tires.”

Please report immediately to the nearest academy so instructors can laugh at you in person.

Random picture I sent my wife last summer after I picked up an extra shift and immediately got rewarded with torrential rain, lightning, and a tree falling across the road.

Which then led to me standing in the downpour explaining to multiple fully grown adults that a police cruiser sideways across the road with emergency lights on does, in fact, mean you cannot drive through there.

Even if…

“Your house is right there.”

Yes.

I understand your house is right there.

The tree is also right there.

That is the issue.

At one point I was genuinely considering adding crayons to the patrol inventory so I could draw a diagram on the hood of the cruiser.
