You trust your people. I know you do.

Good people can produce bad outcomes when there is no architecture around them. That is not their failure. That is a leadership gap.

The question is never: "Do I trust my volunteers?"

The question is: "What does my system do when I'm not in the room?"

If you don't have an answer for that, you don't have a safeguarding plan. You have a safeguarding hope.

And hope is not a policy.

SB 848 does not ask if your staff are good people. It asks if your school has three specific things in writing.

Most schools don't.

Here is what the law actually requires:

1. An updated Comprehensive School Safety Plan with abuse-specific supervision procedures.
2. Written Boundary Policies covering adult-student conduct in every setting, not just classrooms.
3. A Physical Environment Review confirming line-of-sight and no isolated rooms.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6.

That calling didn't come with a policy manual. But the state of California is asking for one now.
