We often wait until we are overwhelmed to seek support. But mental and emotional wellness can benefit from being intentional in addressing personal growth, not just crisis management.

Just like we care for our physical health with regular checkups, movement, and rest, our emotional health also benefits from occasional support and maintenance that goes deeper than self-help or an internet search.

Seeking therapy or ART sessions doesn’t always mean something is “wrong.”
It can mean you:
• Value your peace
• Want healthier relationships
• Want to respond instead of react
• Want to feel more grounded and present
• Are choosing to care for yourself intentionally
• Are ready to make more progress towards your goals

Healing is not only about surviving difficult experiences. It’s also about creating a life that feels healthier, calmer, and more aligned with who you authentically are. I am always honored to share my own experiences if it is helpful for my clients. It’s the greatest privilege to walk with my clients through their own healing journey and see them gain freedom and confidence.

Not every struggle comes from major trauma.
Sometimes it’s the accumulation of daily stress, overwhelm, pressure, high performance seasons or emotional exhaustion that begins to impact how we show up in our lives.
ART can help process:
• chronic stress
• burnout
• relationship tension
• parenting overwhelm
• performance anxiety
• emotional reactivity
• negative thought patterns

One of the things I value most about ART is that it can help clear the emotional “build up” before it becomes something heavier. Mental wellness isn’t only about healing the past, it’s also about continuing to address unhealthy patterns to feel calmer, more present, and more connected in everyday life.

I am grateful for ART and the therapists that have helped me to be the best version of myself and can continue to meet the goals I have for myself. When something feels off or when my world is shaken, I know where I can go to process, gain insights, and get relief quickly so I can continue to bring excellence to my kids, clients, and church community.

Receiving ART sessions has significantly improved many areas in my own life. To maintain my emotional wellness and work towards my own personal growth, I aim to seek out at least three ART sessions every year. Being a healthy therapist, wife, mother, friend and person means continuing to care for myself, addressing challenges as they arise instead of allowing stressors to build up.

Even now, I keep an ongoing note on my phone as I notice issues or patterns in my life that I want to process and gain freedom from through with ART. Shout out to the amazing therapists I’ve received sessions from over the years that have changed my life for the better!

I wanted to do a series sharing some of the ART sessions I’ve experienced personally to highlight the many ways this approach can be beneficial beyond trauma work and anxiety.

If you’ve wrestled with some of these things like me, you don’t have to stay stuck, and life doesn’t have to remain hard. ART has helped make these areas of my life feel light, manageable, and given me fresh clarity to navigate more easily.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) uses brief moments of horizontal eye movements throughout the session to facilitate healing and relief. Why does ART use these eye movements is one of the most common questions I get.

At first, it can sound unusual, but horizontal eye movement is actually something our brains and bodies naturally use every day:
• When we take a walk or drive, our eyes move back and forth scanning our environment
• When we read, our eyes move across the page helping us process and visualize information
• During REM sleep, our eyes rapidly move as the brain processes emotions, memories, and life experiences

Eye movement is already part of how the brain naturally processes stress and experiences. This is why we may have deeper insight or reflection on long drives or walks. The horizontal eye movement while reading helps to enhance visuals and emotions; this is why we can visualize a narrative we read in a more satisfying way than watching the movie with the same plot. The eye movement during ART feels most similar to these experiences.

ART uses this built-in healing mechanism intentionally and therapeutically, while the client remains fully aware, grounded, and in control throughout the session.
The goal is to help the brain:
• Process distressing experiences
• Reduce emotional intensity
• Shift negative patterns
• Create a sense of closure and relief

Our brains already know how to heal. ART simply helps guide the process.

Throughout Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), you choose where it’s best to start, the speed of the treatment, and what is best for you.

The eye movements used in ART are nothing like hypnosis. As the client, you are always fully aware and talking normally throughout the session. Eye movements are utilized to engage both sides of the brain to enable deep lasting healing. The therapist acts as a guide to facilitate healing, but you are always seen as the expert.

Another way ART is unique is that vulnerable retelling of past experiences are not required for healing to happen. ART is also effective, even if you don’t fully remember or know what contributed to the anxiety or stress you are experiencing.

Many people:
• Struggle to put traumatic experiences into words
• Don’t want to relive painful memories out loud
• Value their privacy
• Don’t recall what contributed to their triggers or current stress

With ART, you remain fully in control of what you choose to share. Because it is a process-based therapy, healing happens without needing to retell or recall every single detail of your story.

For many, this approach creates a profound sense of safety, empowerment, and relief. ART provides support that respects both your healing and your preferences.
