As a kid, I always dreamed of owning a flower shop. Aside from gardening with my mom and generally spending a lot of time outdoors, I grew up in a nursery family and plants were just kind of kin.

My maternal great grandfather, Ray Last, started Sterling Gardens in Oshkosh, WI back in the 1950's. Although a much nicer set-up than Two Ferns, he also started the business in their backyard on Sterling Street. His son later took over the business, and they eventually expanded to have a big retail space on Main Street - a full service florist and a garden center. I remember visiting often as a kid since my grandma worked there (my mom and siblings all working at the original greenhouse before I was born). This is certainly where my dream started. I'm grateful that my passion for the environment led me to studying and eventually working in the natural resources and doing conservation work. This dream was able to morph into a beautiful reality that aligned with my values.

The photos shown live on the bulletin board above my desk - the one of the left of their backyard greenhouse taken 75 years ago today. The photo on the right shows my great grandpa inside the greenhouse.

Ope! Finally got that browsing calendar up on the website. I'll be open for browsing starting Monday June 1st!

I may still be getting signs up and doing last minute tidying, but the time has come! The good people demand native plants, and I can't drag my feet forever 🙈

June weekends are already packed with other personal obligations, so June 7th will be an exclusive Sunday for Open Hours.

For those who are new to following along → I schedule out 3 weeks at a time, and the calendar on my website is always up to date. You can reserve any of the "available" spots on my calendar to come browse for plants, or show up to one of the many scheduled "Open Hours" where you don't need an appointment.

You can view my browsing calendar and schedule an appointment here: https://www.twofernsmadison.com/visit/

*I'm doing all the things (waves hands in air frantically), but will hopefully be updating the availability soon to reflect my current inventory!
