✨ PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

Couch Confessions is proud to announce a new partnership with Madison Metropolitan School District and Wright Middle School to bring our Healing Circles for Girls program to their students. 🫶🏾📚

Over the next six weeks, we will be creating intentional space for middle school girls to explore emotional wellness, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and support one another through guided conversations and reflective practices.

Students will also be using our journal, Couch Confessions: The Guided Journal for the Black Woman Healing Out Loud, as a tool for expression, self-awareness, and emotional growth. 📝💜

We are honored to collaborate with MMSD and deeply committed to supporting young girls as they learn, grow, and heal — one circle at a time. 🌀✨

Healing isn’t about who hurt you—it’s about who you refuse to become because of it.

Every day, I remind myself that peace is a decision, not a reaction. Growth isn’t about revenge; it’s about reclaiming your energy and rewriting your story—louder, freer, and softer than before. 💜

Nobody talks about how tiring healing is.
Some days you feel enlightened. Other days, you just feel broke and triggered.
But still - you're showing up for yourself. And that counts.
What's one thing healing taught you the hard way?

Today, my therapist said, “We become victims of our circumstance when we lose our voice.” Whew. That part.

Not speaking up doesn’t always mean peace.
Sometimes it means we’ve stopped believing our voice will change anything.
Sometimes it means survival mode.
Sometimes it means pain with a polite smile.

But today? I’m reclaiming my voice. Even if it shakes. Even if it’s messy. Even if I have to whisper at first.

Because silence might have kept me safe once, but it’s not where I’ll heal.

When I started writing Couch Confessions, I didn’t know who would relate.
But seeing reviews like this? Whew. 🥹
Therapy isn’t always easy—but it’s always worth it.
If you’re on the fence, this book is for you.

I didn’t realize how many versions of me I’d have to release to truly heal.
The version that held everything (and everyone) together.
The version that stayed silent to keep the peace.
The version that smiled when she really wanted to scream.

Grief isn’t just about death.
Sometimes it’s mourning the masks we wore to survive.

So if you’re feeling a little tender today, this is your reminder:
You’re not “too sensitive.” You’re just finally feeling what you were never allowed to.
That’s growth. That’s healing. That’s real.

💜 Be gentle with yourself. You’re doing better than you think.

✨Reader Reaction Time!✨
Whew. THIS one right here? It reminded me exactly why I wrote Couch Confessions in the first place.
Vulnerable. Funny. Honest. A little kick in the butt, too.
The truth is-healing isn't always soft and gentle. Sometimes it's messy, loud, and uncomfortable. Sometimes it takes seeing journel in someone else's story to even begin your own healing
And if no one has told you lately... it's okay not to be okay.
What's been your biggest "aha" moment while healing or reflecting? Share below-we're all figuring it out together.

Rest isn't optional. It's required.
We've been taught to "earn" rest-to grind until we break, to pour until we're empty, to collapse and then call it self-care.
This week, l'm reminding myself (and you, too) that rest is a part of the work. Period.
What's one way you're making space for rest this week?

🛋️Welcome to Couch Confessions🛋️
The Chronicles of a Black Woman in Therapy

This page is for the women (and men) healing out loud, laughing through the pain, and coloring outside the lines (literally and emotionally).

I'm April Kigeya-author, mom of four, therapist's favorite client (probably), and a Black woman choosing herself daily in a world that often tells us not to.

Here, you'll find pages from my book, unfiltered reflections, funny therapy moments, and real conversations about what healing actually looks like.
If you've ever said:
• "This is why I need therapy"
• "I should be writing this down"
• "My life is a whole book".....then pull up a seat. This couch has room for you, too. p / Couch Confessions: The Chronicles of a Black Woman in Therapy available now. Tap the link in bio or DM me to order a signed copy.
