"A Harmony of Humming"

I haven't named my paintings... mostly because I think I am terrible at naming things and my best is an alliteration 😂

Expect more in the future... hopefully better one's

It's been a busy few weeks, I may be moving soon and among other things my art had to take a break. I'm hopeful a new studio space in the coming months will allow me to paint more. For now here is a recent grackle sketch experimenting more with dry brush methods and colors. ☺️

I was drawn to the colors of the red-breasted grossbeak and not only did a see one recently but they were also the bird of the day in the merlin app on Sunday! So I painted one on some gifted paper hoping this will fill someone else's day with this wonderful bird 🥰

Plein air painting at devils lake this weekend! I used oils with the zorn/apelles palette. It was really interesting painting with out a blue and it forced me to think a lot about values. I really enjoyed both working with oils and the limited pallet so I'm hoping do more of it soon!

I haven't done much plein air painting but I really enjoyed sitting at and painting on Sunday. Hopefully the weather will warm and I will have a chance to do more soon.

A recent portrait of Emily from a Sunday session at

I really like how this turned out and I have some ideas for things I want to try next time to be more bolder. It was a busy Sunday and it was nice to see so much talent!!

The black cap chickadee is one of my favorites in the highly accurate scientific category of "birb" also they can remember thousands of hiding spots where they stashed food for later!

A portrait of Nicholas from a recent sitting

I have so much to learn in painting portraits from life. It is such a struggle, but sitting with those overwhelming feelings I've noticed each time I've been able to take away something incredibly valuable.
