6/16/2026- Not what we were expecting.

Went downtown today for Gabriel’s bimonthly appointments, labs, meet with our Oncologist. Only took us an hour and a half to get there. Got us right in for his labs, Gabriel handled it like a champ. They get us in a room, and the fire alarms start sounding. Mind you it’s pouring rain outside, we are in a hospital and downtown Houston. You’re kidding right!! About that time nurse walks in and says we’re gonna have to follow her, voice comes over intercom this is a State Requirement Fire Drill. This lasts about 10 minutes, talk about a cluster.

Anyways,
Our Oncologist comes in, most of his labs came back in the normal range some low some high. We have a talk about a few things, his cancer marker results hadn’t come back yet and we head home.
As we are waiting for the suv. I look over at mom and I know the look, she’s holding it in and trying not to cry in front of Gabriel. The Cancer Marker Results on MyChart came in and the Cancer Markers have increased to 110, Recurrence number two.
Two months ago at his last labs appointment they were within the normal range at 10.6. We get in the SUV to make the trek back home and mom breaks down crying. None of us were expecting this kind of news today. We get a phone call from our Oncologist as we are driving and she says the same, wasn’t expecting the increase. But we need to schedule a MRI and CAT Scan soon and have labs done next month.

It’s a hard pill to swallow to learn your child has cancer, go into remission and get an all clear. Only for a year and a half or two years later. You hear, your child’s Cancer has returned. A storm of emotions takes over your body and mind. Words cannot describe the feelings you experience. It’s been two years ago on June 8 when we found the last recurrence.

Gabriel is scheduled for MRI and CAT Scans this Saturday evening at Texas Children’s. We are hopeful we can get it located and nip it in the rear sooner rather than later. We don’t have a plan of action until we locate where the cells have metastasized. Even though we weren’t prepared physically and mentally for this news today to have to go through this all over again. We will continue to Fight to Keep Gabriel’s Cancer Extinct, We are preparing to hit it hard and Kick its Ass a third time.

Gabriel says awe man what the fa! Gabriel knows he has cancer and it’s bad and scary but doesn’t understand the severity of it. In his eyes it’s losing his hair, makes him sick all the time, long hospital stays. We’ve asked Gabriel what it means to him to have cancer and he asked why he has it and says it’s scary. He did ask us not to tell his brother and sister until it’s necessary.

As always Please say an extra Prayer for Gabriel and our family as we prepare ourselves to continue to Fight.
Love,
The Goode’s

Gabriel's appointment with his Oncologist went ahead today, after being rescheduled from the 1st due to the arrival of his little sister. The latest results show his Cancer Marker (AFP) levels have decreased from 10.9 to 10.6. Although the levels remain abnormal, the downward trend is a positive sign, and continued monitoring will be crucial. With his Platelets currently at 55,000, Gabriel's medical team will stay vigilant. We all need to be mindful and Limit activities with high injury risk. With his platelet count low it increases the risk of bleeding during injuries. A normal range is 150,000-450,000. We go back for testing again in a month and half or so and in the meantime we will continue to monitor. As always say a prayer for Gabriel and Our Family as we continue to Fight to Keep Gabriel’s Cancer Extinct.
Love,
The Goode’s
