It’s common knowledge that carbs improve performance during longer events but what works best for fueling, solids, gels, or fluids??
What the results show us is that the form in which carbohydrates are ingested does not really matter for the oxidation of the carbohydrate. In other words, as an athlete, you can mix and match and use gels, bars, a sports drink, or whatever you prefer to get your carbs in.
As long as you can handle it, you can do gels, eat solids, or take it all in as liquid. Just be sure to practice before your big day!
