❤️ Philly 5 Update —

Monday 7/7, the court finally spoke for them.

Heather Russin was sentenced to 3–11 years in state prison and is banned from owning a dog or cat for the rest of her life after being sentenced on 22 felony aggravated cruelty to animals charges Monday in Northumberland County Court.

She asked for house arrest so she could work and be with her child. The judge denied it. She will face the parole board at the 3‑year mark.

Eric Hunter faced a trial back in May and was found guilty for the same charges, his sentencing is still to come.

For National Anatolian Shepherd Rrscue Network, this is a hard‑earned win. For every volunteer who drove, cried, cleaned, transported, fostered, stayed up at night worrying about these dogs, and most of all you advocated, you wrote letters and emails, you made the phone calls, you didn’t stop. you did it! We need change in our justice system for the animals… and you pushed and got it!

Big Paws K9 Foster House still has Koa under our care. He is safe. He is healing. He is learning that hands can be gentle and homes can be quiet. His progress is slow(but understood), steady, and worth every minute.

Justice doesn’t erase trauma, but it does protect future animals. And it reminds us that rescue work, the exhausting, heartbreaking, beautiful work, changes outcomes.
