Board games require family members to sit down and interact with each other – increasingly important in a world where we spend much of our time in separate rooms.
But perhaps best of all, they remind us how to play!

WHAT CRITICAL SKILL IS YOUR CHILD MISSING IN SCHOOL?
Your children are missing out on one major skill in their education. Ignoring this skill could set them up for a lifetime of hardship. A lot of traditional education focuses on the retention and regurgitation of facts. What is Pythagoreans theorem? What is the sum of the angles in a right Triangle? But there is one very important skill that is severely neglected. That skill is learning how to think.
No one is going to argue that remembering things such as pythagoreans theorem isn’t important, but learning how to think is equally if not more important. The problem is that
people’s jobs are being replaced by computers and robots that can remember facts better and repeat processes better than humans can and frankly have fewer requirements. They don’t sleep they don’t eat and they don’t complain. They simply buzz away executing repeatable processes and recalling data points and facts with nearly 100% accuracy. The world is changing and the days of making a living off remembering facts and doing easily automated tasks are going by the way side.
The jobs of tomorrow will reward problem solvers. Those who know how to think and why to think that way. The next wave of workers will be creative problem solvers who innovate on how we approach and solve the problems of tomorrow.
So how do you gain this all elusive skill. Well one way is to play board games. Many Board games teach your mind to learn how to think. Games that rely heavily on social interaction and complex body language are great. These games allow your brain to learn how to think not what to think. You need to come up with creative ways of working with and against other players. Chess for example has a finite number of rules that are hard and fast and the players creativity is limited by the strict rules of the game. It took a while but computer power has become fast enough where a computer can crunch all of the possible moves in the game and calculate the best probable move in any situation. Computers now dominate humans in chess. But in games that involve social interaction and body language clues, computers just can compute the billions of variables presented by complex human interaction. So play more board games, learn how to think and why to think. Your imagination is your most powerful asset so feed it.
