(Myanmar) I like buying traditional clothes as souvenirs when I travel; I bought 2 longyis in Myanmar: one from a market in Yangon and one from this village workshop near the lake. The deal here is you choose your fabric (I chose yellow as it's my favourite colour) and the lady sews it into the longyi for you while you wait. I love the old sewing machine, and I love the yellow longyi - I wear it a lot in the summer :)

(Myanmar) Ywama woman: originally from mountain communities in northern Myanmar and Thailand, these days many of the remaining Ywama work in craft shops and gift shops in some of the more touristic spots, like this one I met on a tour of Inle Lake . She spoke good English. One of the girls in another group who was visiting the workshop at the same time had a tongue piercing, and this Ywama lady could not get her head around why anyone would have a tongue piercing, she imagined it would be very painful and uncomfortable not to mention difficult to eat......I mean, go figure...😆😅
