The NLP Meta Model

The NLP Meta Model is a set of question language patterns used in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to understand a person’s model of the world and to begin to loosen up their model of the world to move them toward their desired positive change.

It can also be used to challenge and expand upon limiting beliefs and generalizations in communication.

It helps to identify and transform vague or imprecise language into more specific and accurate language.

The Meta Model can be used to clarify and gather more detailed information in a conversation or communication, and can also be used as a tool for personal development and coaching.

It consists of three categories of questions, to uncover what has been (1) deleted, (2) distorted and (3)!generalized in a person’s language and thinking.

The deleted questions are used to fill in missing information, distorted are used to challenge assumptions, and the generalized are used to challenge generalizations.

The Meta Model has been used in a wide range of fields, including business, in-depth psychological interviewing for therapy, qualitative marketing research, coaching, consulting, and motivational interviewing.

Some of the more common uses of the NLP Meta Model include:

1. Communication and negotiation: The Meta Model can be used to clarify and gather more detailed information in a conversation or negotiation, helping to avoid misunderstandings and reach agreements more effectively.
2. Personal development: The Meta Model can be used as a tool for personal development, helping individuals to identify and transform limiting beliefs and generalizations that may be holding them back.
3. Therapy: The Meta Model can be used in therapy to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, beliefs and assumptions.
4. Sales: The Meta Model can be used in sales to help salespeople identify and overcome objections, and to gather more detailed information about the customer's needs and preferences.
