WHAT. A. DAY!!!!!! Yesterday was our first of the year free vaccine clinic, partnering with Shelby County Health Department and Memphis Animal Services and as usual the turnout was amazing, the volunteers showed up and kicked tail (figuratively of course), and lots of pets went home protected from deadly viruses and microchipped in case they get lost. The line was LONG (see video in comments) but we kept it moving and got everybody through as quickly as possible. The preliminary numbers were 245 vaccines given (cats and dogs) and 35 signed up for free spay/neuter! We could not be more proud of those numbers. Every volunteer knew their task and stayed on top of it but I'm going to shout out the techs and animal control officers, those interacting with the pets directly. Not all of the pets who come through are well socialized and they aren't thrilled about being handled by strangers in a strange outdoor setting and weren't afraid to let it be known. That did not deter our team and they got creative and worked together and got even the most unwilling patient what they needed with as little stress as possible. Dr Moffatt had her mobile clinic on site to take the kitties in so they could be contained safely and nobody could make a break for it. Ive said it before and I'll say it always, we have THE BEST team in rescue! The Health Department volunteers were on top of their game with paperwork and logistics. We are sharing this sweet boy who is losing the only family he’s known for 6 years. His momma has stage 4 cancer and her family is having to move her in for Hospice care. Little Daddy will have to go to the shelter tomorrow but a friend of the rescue is hoping we find someone to step up for him first. He is good with other dogs, just wants to be a couch buddy.
