Something is happening to America in 2026 that most people won't hear about on the news.

As the United States prepares to mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, the Catholic bishops are pointing to something deeper than history. They are inviting Catholics to remember how the faith has shaped this country and to renew that relationship in a real and visible way.

In a significant step, the bishops of the United States plan to consecrate the nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, 2026. They are also encouraging every parish to take part in this act of consecration, so that it is not just something done by leaders, but something lived by the whole Church.

Consecration means placing something fully under the care and authority of Jesus. In this case, it is a public act of trust, asking Christ to guide, protect, and renew the country. Devotion to the Sacred Heart focuses on the love and mercy of Jesus, and the Church has long encouraged this devotion as a way to grow closer to Him and turn away from sin.

This moment is not about politics or national pride. It is about returning to Christ and allowing Him to be at the center again, both personally and as a nation.

The invitation is simple, but serious.

St. Dominic Savio wrote these words as part of the resolutions he made after his First Communion at only seven years old. He lived in northern Italy in the 1800s and was known for his deep prayer life, purity, and love for God even as a child. While most kids his age were focused only on games or fitting in, Dominic understood something many adults still struggle to learn: the people closest to you shape the direction of your soul.

He saw Jesus not as a distant figure, but as someone real, present, and worth following every day. He also stayed close to Mary because she always leads people closer to her Son. That is deeply Catholic. Scripture says, “Bad company corrupts good morals” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Dominic chose heavenly friendship over worldly approval.

This quote matters today because many people are being shaped more by social media, culture, and online voices than by Christ. The question is not whether you are being influenced. The question is: by who?
