In honor of a great woman, we support and provide aid to at-risk children and vulnerable women by holding a safe space for them to heal and prosper.

His first word was “uko.”

It means “there” in Swahili, a small word, a single syllable, pointing at something he could finally see. Maxwell said it a few weeks into his time at Kwetu Haven, and the team heard it as the signal it was: he was arriving, slowly and on his own terms, into himself.

Maxwell was brought by the children’s office in Gilgil after the community raised the alarm. His mother had left when he was three months old. His father, a young man doing his best to survive, had nowhere to put a toddler in the shape of his days. Maxwell was left alone with food on the table and no one to help him grow into it. He arrived at Kwetu malnourished, unable to walk, not yet speaking, and pale from months without sunlight.

Maxwell needed someone to hold him, someone to put food in his hands and let him figure out how to eat, someone to take him outside and let the light land on his face. And then, one morning, he pointed at something and said “uko: there.”

Maxwell is walking now, he is talking. He was reconnected with his family, they are able to take care of him and that is where his story is right now.

This is what rescue looks like before it becomes a reunion. It looks like a child pointing at something with his whole hand because he has finally learned that the world is worth noticing. 🌱

What it costs to make that possible:
🍽️ Food $50/month
👕 Clothes, shoes and toiletries $30 on arrival
🩺 Medical assessment $30 on arrival
🔍 Family tracing and reunification $100 per case
🏡 Kwetu Haven rent $500/month
💡 Utilities (electricity and water) $200/month

We built Kwetu Haven for one reason. 🏡

Not to keep children but to bring them home. 🤍

Since 2022, 100+ children have walked through the doors of our rescue home in Gilgil, Kenya, after abuse, abandonment, or exploitation. Each one arrived with nothing and each one left with a family waiting. 🤲🏾

That’s what makes us different. We don’t measure success by how many children we house. We measure it by empty beds. 🛏️

Today we are launching a 10-day campaign to raise $10,000 for Kwetu Haven.
Every dollar goes directly to rescue and reunification operations. 💰

And because Nisria has always believed that healing and prosperity go hand in hand we’re offering something in return. 🌿

Give $300 → receive a handcrafted AHADI By Nisria brass jewelry piece 🤍
Give $500 → receive an upcycled Maisha By Nisria garment 🌱
Give $1,000 → receive both and send 10 children home ✨

10 days ⏳
$10,000 🎯
100+ families reunited and counting 🤍
