Becoming a plant-based Brand (Part 1):

Being a brand that started out with a strong focus on leather goods and then making the conscious decision to not use any animal derived skins anymore about ten years ago, challenged us to completely rethink the way we design and the materials that we can facilitate in our collections.

In the beginning we were more focused on using vegan alternatives than on the sustainability aspect, and we used a lot of faux leathers that were basically plastic!
Not great for the planetandneither for you nor your wellbeing!

It did not take us long to realise that this is not the way to go for us, as we were not only amid to turn our brand around to a vegan one but also to a sustainable one!

That it was easier said than done is an understatement, as at the time, there were hardly any environmentally friendly plant-based leather alternatives available.

We decided to focus on sustainable couture, as the materials we could get were quite costly and mainly far away from being available in bulk.

This has certainly been part of shaping us of who we are today as a brand as well as what we want to represent with our designs.

The longing to create with a purpose and to create the least amount of harm for our planet and all its inhabitants has been at the forefront of our designs ever since, and we have worked with a big variety of plant-based, mainly petroleum free leather alternatives that have enriched our way of designing.

Are there challenges? Always. (watch out for Part 2)
Would we ever consider going back to real leathers or faux leathers that are easier to use but made from plastic? Never!

We love every step of the journey:

From researching new materials, to connecting with the wonderful conscious innovators and fabric suppliers to imagining what is possible to create with these beautiful materials.

Our journey is not only about the outcome, but it is about adding real value along the way. It doesn't mean the destination is irrelevant, but the journey shapes the destination.
