During her time with us, we shared a bit about: • How fish are raised with care and responsibility
• The importance of animal welfare in aquaculture
• Biosecurity practices to keep animals healthy
• And why producing safe, high-quality food matters

Teaching children where food comes from helps build respect for animals, the environment, and the people behind food production. It also encourages healthier eating habits and more conscious choices in the future.

Tech Tuesday — Male or Female: Why It Matters? 🐟♀️🐟♂️

S*x identification is a fundamental step in our breeding program, supporting the selection of the best males and females and maintaining the quality of our genetic lines.

At Spring Genetics, this step requires thorough preparation, with a focus on proper fish handling, stress reduction, and minimizing errors during the process.

Here, we are separating males and females based on subtle physical characteristics:

Males:
• Single urogenital opening
• More robust body
• Faster growth rates

Females:
• Two distinct openings (urethra and oviduct)
• More elongated body
• Slower growth rates

In improved genetic lines, sexing can be more challenging, requiring trained personnel and standardized procedures.

In aquaculture, attention to detail makes all the difference.
