Molds are types of fungi. They grow in the natural environment. Tiny particles of mold are found everywhere in indoor and outdoor air. In nature, molds help break down dead materials and can be found growing on soil, foods, plants, and other items. Molds are also very common in buildings and homes. Mold needs moisture to grow. Indoors, mold growth can be found where humidity levels are high, like basements and showers. Molds produce microscopic cells called "spores" that are spread easily through the air. Spores can also be spread by water and insects. Live spores act like seeds, forming new mold colonies when they find the right conditions.

Did you know we spend about 90% of our time indoors?
• Poor indoor air quality can impact everyone – especially children, the elderly, and people with health conditions like asthma and heart disease.
• Indoor air quality refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, particularly as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns.
• Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems. There are many sources of indoor air pollution – everything from building materials and household cleaners to biological pollutants, such as mold, dust mites and pet dander.

Mold remediation involves several steps aimed at removing mold from a building and preventing its recurrence. The process begins with a mold inspection and assessment. A licensed mold assessor inspects the property to identify mold growth and moisture sources, using tools such as moisture meters, infrared cameras, and air sampling to evaluate the extent of contamination.
There are several benefits to conducting a thorough mold assessment. It helps to determine the type and amount of mold contamination, facilitating a focused remediation strategy. Knowing the specific mold species present enables the selection of suitable cleaning agents and methods. Additionally, identifying the sources of moisture that contribute to mold growth is essential for preventing future occurrences. Early detection through mold assessment can reduce health risks associated with mold exposure, including respiratory issues and allergic reactions. Overall, accurate mold assessment is an important step in maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.
