My Statement:
11/12/2025
Our family received news today that the suspect accused of taking the life of my 16-year-old nephew, Marquis Champion, has been arrested in Oklahoma City.
This brings us great relief knowing we’re one step closer to justice for Marquis and the two young men who were also shot that night.
We want to thank the U.S. Marshals, Oklahoma law enforcement, Milwaukee Police, the Milwaukee County DA’s Office, Crime Stoppers, Hupy and Abraham, CBS 58’s Amanda Porterfield, and other media organizations for helping keep Marquis’ story visible.
And to everyone who has shared kind words, condolences, and prayers, thank you. Your support has meant everything to our family.

A week ago, my 16-year-old nephew, Marquis Champion, was tragically killed in a triple shooting near 79th and Hampton. Two other young men who were with him were also shot but survived.
Marquis was full of life and joy. He wasn’t a troublemaker, just a good kid with a big heart and bright dreams ahead. Our family is heartbroken and grieving deeply.
As we prepare for his funeral, we ask for privacy, prayers, and understanding during this painful time. Today, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Martell D. Haire in connection with his murder.
Please keep our family and the two young men recovering from their injuries in your prayers.
