โ๏ธ The side of your house that the sun is quietly destroying.
South-facing walls take years of direct sun โ and that's exactly where rot likes to start.
This weekend, check for 4 signs ๐
๐ธ Chalky, faded paint
๐ธ Cracking or flaking
๐ธ Dry, grey, brittle wood
๐ธ Open cracks in the wood
Catch it early, and you save the wood. Wait too long, and water does the rest.
๐ฌ Comment ROT, and we'll send you our complete guide to preventing rot in your home.

What's hiding under the paint? ๐ค
This porch in Kenwood looked perfect from the street. Behind the column?
Years of hidden rot โ the kind that quietly spreads if you ignore it.

Some projects are worth following from the first board.
We're mid-build on a new patio extension in Northeast Minneapolis โ cedar stairs built by hand from the ground up, herringbone brick laid one piece at a time, every cut planned before any work began.
The herringbone isn't just for looks โ it's chosen for how it holds up over time. Those small decisions are what make an addition feel like it always belonged.
Not finished yet, but getting close. Follow along and we'll share the finished space soon.
Thinking about an addition of your own? Send us a message โ we'd be glad to walk through it with you.

Is your home rotting from the inside out?
On older houses, window sills are the first place rot takes hold โ and it hides behind paint that looks completely fine from the street. It starts with a crack or a worn-out bit of caulking, and water does the rest.
Take five minutes this weekend to check your sills for vertical cracks, warping, or soft, dark patches in the corners.
๐ Comment "ROT" and we'll send you our free guide to spotting and preventing rot before it spreads.

This Minneapolis entrance didn't need a touch-up โ it needed to be rebuilt from the studs up. ๐จ
When framing fails, paint only hides it while the damage keeps moving underneath. So we removed the old structure, raised new framing, and rebuilt it to last โ finished to match the home around it.
The most important work is the part nobody sees once it's done: the structure underneath. That's what separates a restoration that holds for decades from one that fails again in a few seasons. Most contractors skip it. We don't.
Got a porch, entrance, or addition that's seen better years? We'll take a look and talk you through your options honestly.

If your home was built before 1970, your exterior has been through a lot of Minnesota winters โ and freeze-thaw cycles don't ask permission.
Moisture finds every crack, joint, and seam. By the time damage shows up on the surface โ peeling paint, soft spots, warped boards, gaps at the trim โ it's usually well past the surface. What started as cosmetic becomes structural.
The good news: there are three early signs most homeowners can spot before the damage spreads. Caught early, it's a repair. Caught late, it can mean a full re-side and sheathing replacement.
