🧠⚡️Throwback Thursday: How it started versus how it’s going➡️ At the age of 2, I emigrated with my family from Haiti to South Florida. While growing up, I was born premature, leading to the development of dyslexia. 14.5 to 43.5 million children and adults—have dyslexia, a learning disability that makes it difficult to read, write, and spell. Despite this, I remained undeterred and steadfast in his determination to be an entrepreneur. While growing up, I was inspired by other individuals with dyslexia such as Steven Spielberg, Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Tebow, Richard Branson, and Daymond John.
While in college at SUNY College of Technology-Canton, I was diagnosed with Chrohn’s Disease, a rare autoimmune disease. I discovered that technology could be the catalyst to provide for himself and others a way to connect to a plethora of resources for their own disabilities and physical disadvantages. Also, through personal experience, I directly experienced the difficulties disabled individuals face in securing viable employment. This led me to establish a non-profit organization, the Alliance Community and Employment Services, Inc. (ACES). ACES assists countless disabled jobseekers to secure employment in South Florida.
I struggled to find other individuals with the same disease for support in coping with the challenges of living with his disability. In 2008, I directly assisted Dr. Michael Arbitman, a client that was referred to ACES through the Division of Blind Services. I combined my social service background with Dr. Arbitman’s expertise in Computer Information to develop ImUneek®, a social networking platform where those with medical conditions can network amongst each other and find local resources with their community. I believes that an individual is not defined by their medical condition or disability, and that anyone can achieve their goals as long as they have the correct support system in place.
As we recover from COVID-19, I knows we need bold action to help our Miramar City rebuild. As a City Commissioner, I will collaborate with small businesses to expand employment opportunities, support our youth, and fight for Miramar
