Helping individuals take their first step toward stability by securing vital documents—birth certificates, Social Security cards, and state IDs.

Sometimes the biggest victories aren't the fastest ones.

Earlier this year, a young lady came to First Steps looking for help obtaining her identification documents. We started the process and provided assistance, but then we never heard back. As the months passed, we noticed that the check we had issued had never been cashed. We wondered what had happened and hoped she was okay.

Today, she walked back through our doors with a smile on her face, proudly holding her new Social Security card and Alabama State ID.

What makes this story so special is that she held on to that check for nearly six months. She didn't lose it. She didn't give up. She kept it safe, knowing that when the time was right, she would finish what she started.

Today, she did exactly that.

We often talk about "first steps," but the truth is that real progress doesn't always happen on our timeline. Sometimes it takes time, determination, and the courage to keep moving forward when life gets in the way.

Today we celebrate her accomplishment, her persistence, and the path she is creating for herself. Listening to her story, it's clear she is moving in the right direction.

These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do.
Congratulations on taking those first steps—and on continuing the journey

If you know of who can't get a new new ID due to outstanding city of Mobile traffic warrants, here's an opportunity to have them resolved.

Look at this. Another young man who came to us for assistance. Today he will get his IDs again. It's another first step moving forward and that's what we're here for.

We're excited and in awe of the help and support from the community as we hit our next benchmark. We will soon going to hit 700 people that we've helped in just over one year. It is simply amazing.

Today was a reminder of why we do what we do.

One of the individuals we were able to help today was so excited to finally begin the process of getting the identification documents needed to move forward in life. Moments like this matter.

A simple ID can open doors to housing, employment, healthcare, and hope. We are grateful to be a small part of that journey and thankful for every partner, volunteer, and supporter who helps make these moments possible.
Every step forward matters.

Yesterday at First Steps, we had the joy of helping a man receive his ID — a small piece of plastic that opens up big possibilities. ✨
The best part about helping others isn’t just the paperwork or the process; it’s getting to know the people behind the forms. Swapping stories, sharing laughter, and making new friends — that’s what makes days like yesterday truly special. ❤️
Here’s to the connections we make along the way and the smiles that remind us why we do this work.

Great news!

If you have outstanding City of Mobile traffic warrants that may be preventing you from obtaining a new or replacement state ID or license, a City of Mobile Traffic Warrant Clinic will be held on June 6 at the Spring Hill Recreation Center from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

This event may help remove barriers that are keeping individuals from moving forward with obtaining identification, employment, housing, and other important services.

Scan the QR code below, or call (251) 281-8405 to sign up and reserve your spot.

Today we had the privilege of walking alongside a young man as he took his first steps toward getting his IDs.

He was referred to us by our great partners at AltaPointe Health Systems PATH Program, and we’re grateful for the continued partnership that allows moments like this to happen.

Every step forward matters—and today was a big one. 💙

ONE YEAR OF FIRST STEPS

One year ago, we took a step of faith and launched First Steps with a simple mission—to help people take their first step toward stability.
Today, we celebrate what God has done through this community.

In just one year, 645 individuals have been served.

645 lives where someone said, “Let’s walk this out together.”

Through First Steps, we’ve helped provide: ✔️ State IDs
✔️ Birth Certificates
✔️ Social Security Cards
✔️ Support with benefits like food assistance and disability applications

These aren’t just documents—these are doors opening.
Doors to housing, employment, healthcare, and hope.

This didn’t happen alone.
We are incredibly grateful for the partners who have stood beside us and made this possible:
Franklin Healthcare for the Homeless
Waterfront Rescue Mission
AltaPointe Health
Altapointe VA Peer Support
Altapointe PATH Program

And to every person who has supported us along the way—
To those who encouraged us…
To those who believed in this mission…
To those who gave financially…
To those who shared our story…
Thank you.

Your support has allowed us to reach people in some of their hardest moments and walk with them toward something better.

We’ve seen courage.
We’ve seen people rise.
We’ve seen hope restored.

This is only the beginning.
645 in year one… and we’re just getting started.

❤️ First Steps – Helping people take their first step toward stability.
