The mental game in drifting...Two laps. No second chances.

For me, the thing that works is becoming singularly focused. I go through the run in my head until everything else fades into the background. It almost feels like you’ve already had a practice lap before your battle. Then I take deep breaths through my nose to get as much oxygen into my body as possible and keep my heart rate regulated.

Once I leave the line, everything else fades away except drifting. Your only job is to run a good line. Simple.

One saying that helps me is, “I’m not nervous, I’m excited.” Nervousness and excitement come from the same part of your brain, so reframing it helps me channel that energy instead of fighting it.
Also sim drifting helps so much. You get to practice all the time with being nervous when someone really good is chasing you and you don't want to give them a bad lead. 🤣 Thats the same feeling you get in real life.

Learning how to handle the pressure and performing is one of the hardest parts of the sport.
