Eyeglass lenses scratched and hard to clean? Our customers ask us all the time what the best method to clean them is. This is it!
Over time, the oils from our skin slowly work their way into the tiny spaces between the lenses and frame. Eventually those oils build up and start coming back out, smearing all over the lens as we wipe them. This is why they start to seem impossible to get clean after a while.
The solution? Use a mild dish soap such as Dawn and warm, not hot, water. Do this at least twice a week to prevent long term buildup or daily if so inclined.
1. Give the glasses a quick rinse to remove any loose dust.
2. Place a dime sized amount of mild dish soap onto your wet fingertips and spread it across the lenses.
2. You can rinse them immediately or let them sit for a minute for a deeper clean if it's been a while. Use warm water, not hot.
3. Your lenses will be perfectly clean and they only need to be wiped dry with a microfiber cloth. No scrubbing is necessary and your lenses will thank you down the road.
This reduces the amount of wiping the lens surface and will make your lenses last much longer and clean easier for those times you need to do a quick dry clean with a cloth.
Important tips:
• DON'T SQUEEZE your lenses hard when wiping. Use a gentler touch. Polish, don’t scrub.
• Do not use ANY cleaner that smells like alcohol. It won’t ruin your lenses immediately but slowly eats away at the scratch coating or AR coating.
• Many pre-moistened cloths from lens manufacturers contain alcohol too. Even though these are made for eyeglass lenses we believe they are just about the worst thing you could ever use. We have NO idea why they do this, but do not use them.
