What is a Nurse practitioner ?

According to New York State Education Law § 6902, a nurse practitioner (NP) diagnoses illnesses and physical conditions and performs therapeutic and corrective measures within the specialty area of practice in which the NP is certified. New York certifies NPs to practice in the following specialty areas: Adult Health; Family Health; Gerontology; Neonatology; Obstetrics; Oncology; Pediatrics, Perinatology; Psychiatry; School Health; Women’s Health; Holistic; and Palliative Care.
New York State Education Law holds NPs independently responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of their patients and does not require an NP to practice under physician supervision. As described in more detail below, this law requires each NP to practice in accordance with written practice protocols and a written practice agreement with a collaborating physician. However, an NP with more than 3600 hours of qualifying NP practice experience can opt to:
* continue to practice pursuant to a written practice protocols and a written practice agreement with a collaborating physician, as described in Section II “Practicing in Accordance with a Written Practice Agreement with a Collaborating Physician”, below; or,
* practice and have collaborative relationships with one or more qualified physicians or New York State Health Department licensed health care facility (i.e., hospital, nursing home, ambulatory surgery center, or diagnostic and treatment center), as described in Section III, “Collaborative Relationships”, below.

To paraphrase : A nurse practitioner is an advance practice registered nurse. Nurse practitioners are trained to assess patients needs, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory test, diagnose disease, formulate and prescribe treatment plans. Nurse practitioners can be found in primary care, acute care and long term care settings.

Grieving is personal

We lost the matriarch of the family on June 30, 2021 at the tender age of 98 years old. Claire Colin was my maternal grandmother 👵🏾.

My mom invited me to Christmas 🎅🏾 🎶
I attended with with her. Both my mom & I have received our COVID-19 vaccine 💉 booster shots. As the norm, proof of vaccine 💉 was required to enter.

As I sat next to my mom I realized this is a type of social gathering that was a norm before Covid. Before Covid my mom & I attended public events and enjoyed talking to people face to face. Social gatherings was part of our mental health. Grieving is also part of mental health.

My mom & immediate family lost the traditional 🇭🇹 mourning process of church ⛪️ & community gathering for the deceased and comforting immediate family members in person at home prior to the funeral mass. ⛪️& community members bring patties, hot chocolate 🍫 , comfort and prayers. For seven straight days you go into prayer mode with others who comfort you via hugs 🫂 of comfort and to pray for the spirit of the dearly departed. My mom does miss her mother daily yet Claire would not wants us sitting around sulking. When you move forward and live your life, you are not disrespecting the dead. Honor them by living your life where they would be proud of what your doing and accomplishing.

If you are not vaccinated against Covid-19, I ask that you consider it for yourself and the rest of society. We need to beat this 🦠 and the best weapon currently is vaccine 💉.

Medgar Evers College introduces new cannabis minor degree

New York State has legalized ma*****na. Medgar Evers College is a city university in Brooklyn, New York ( one of the five boroughs on NYC) who will be offering a minor degree in cannabis.

New York City embraces diversity.
