One of the oldest known photographs of the Holy Kaaba is believed to date back to around 1880 (1297 AH), making the remarkable image approximately 146 years old.
The historic photograph is widely attributed to Ottoman-Egyptian engineer and photographer Muhammad Sadiq Bey, who is recognized for capturing some of the earliest known photographs of Makkah and the sacred sites during the late 19th century. His pioneering work provided a rare visual record of the Holy City at a time when photography was still in its infancy.
These early images offer a unique glimpse into the historical landscape of Makkah, preserving scenes of the Holy Kaaba and its surroundings long before the era of modern development and expansion. Today, such photographs remain invaluable historical documents, helping scholars and historians better understand the architectural and cultural heritage of Islamβs holiest site.
More than a century later, these rare photographs continue to inspire fascination around the world, serving as a powerful reminder of the enduring spiritual significance and timeless legacy of the Holy Kaaba.
