The Art Directors Club is the world’s first creative industry organization. Founded in 1920, the ADC sponsors the longest continually running award show that celebrates excellence in design, advertising, motion, illustration, photography and craftsmanship.

Importantly, all revenue from the show funds a range of professional development, education and diversity programs within the industry. By entering the ADC Annual Awards, you help build the future of our profession. Your support helps keep these initiatives free or low-cost for participants.

When we were driving and I’d ask my mom where we were going, she’d often say, “To hell if we don’t change our ways!” It was a regular joke for people in my Pentecostal family and she delivered it with goofy bravado, but I realized as I got older that she was often saying it to distract from the fact that she didn't know where we were going. With no money, her abusive boyfriend hunting for us, and dwindling places to run to, she gave me this little platitude that I could chew on as I gazed out the car window. I often thought about hell and what I needed to change about myself to avoid going there. When I reflect now, I see that hell was being caught in a cycle of violence, watching as the hurt moved through generations, through my mother, through her father, through his father, through the men who came into my life and wanted to be my father, through me, through my brother.⁠
