FRAUD ALERT 🚨
UPDATE: In addition to leaving voicemail messages for potential victims, we have received reports that these fraudsters are also contacting people via text message. However the message is received, it is a scam.
ORIGINAL POST: Please be aware of a scam currently circulating in which a fraudster leaves a voicemail instructing their intended victim to contact a specific individual at the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. When the victim calls the number provided by the fraudster, they are connected to a recorded phone menu which sounds convincing and offers options to connect to various departments within the agency. The ultimate aim is to engage the victim and obtain their personal identification details.
This scam can take many forms, including individuals impersonating HMRC, your bank, utility companies, or other legitimate organisations. Fraudsters may claim you have failed to report for jury service, that there is a warrant out for your arrest, that you are in contempt of court, or that you have unpaid traffic fines.
If you receive such a voicemail, look up the organisation’s genuine contact number and call them directly to verify the information.
