MONDAY ACCORDING TO MARK!
World Cup Fever: do you have it? That's OK, we're just getting started. But big stuff is happening every day, and it'll be going for a month, so at least watch some highlights and see what we're all talking about. If you want to do something that's not just sitting and watching people run around for 90 minutes kicking a ball and not scoring, there's a wonderful show which is nearing the end of its run happening at the Daryl Roth Theatre. It's called "In And Of Itself" and is the brainchild and masterwork of sleight-of-hand magician and storyteller extraordinaire Derek del Gaudio. Directed by Frank Oz, the show takes Derek's gifts and employs them to move audiences to wonder, amazement, and pure emotion. I've seen it now twice, and both times were truly rewarding and unforgettable experiences. Don't try to figure out how it's done, just go and be blown away. Next up, this week the lovable and provocative Alan Cu***ng brings a one-man show to Joe's Pub!

MONDAY ACCORDING TO MARK!
We're starting another new social media tradition! Our own, Mark Spano, is an entertainment aficionado. Each Monday, we'll have him give his take on what's hot and what's not. This week's subject? Tony Awards. *jazz hands*
The Tonys last night said a lot about Broadway, but Broadway's just the tip of the iceberg for your entertainment dollar. The Band's Visit is a worthy musical, which I really liked in its Off-Broadway incarnation the year before at the Atlantic Theater Company. Speaking of, another production at the Atlantic now playing that I really liked is The Great Leap. It's a super-compelling story about a Chinese-American basketball player who's trying to get on the American team, about to play a 'friendly' game against China, in China, in 1989, just as rebellion is flaring up. It's wild and dramatic, with another fantastic performance by BD Wong. Maybe this makes the jump to Broadway too? We need more new plays on Broadway! Also, the Public's Shakespeare in the Park is back again with Othello - Chukwudi Iwuji plays the Moor, and another fantastically compelling performance by Corey Stoll as Iago. It's free, don't miss it.
