This moment from 📸 was one of many iconic moments striped bass leave in our minds. Today, we have a decision. Draft amendment 7 is a new Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission document that would be the first since the old amendment 6 passed in 2003. Public comment closes April 15!
Right now the is spearheading the awareness for public comments (get heard!). Link enclosed. The goal is to address at least mortality, and to make the striped bass management have less loopholes from state to state. It’s hard work but ASGA is on the case with you. Topics in amendment 7: management triggers (i.e. actions that actually must occur based on real data gathered), understanding and improving release mortality (A whopping 8% is considered standard and changing hook types and release methods can cut into that number significantly), a rebuilding plan for the future (rebuilding female stock biomass when data shows decline), and conservation equivalency (i.e. States with different regulations create loopholes as fish swim north and south.)
