Bookish has been renewed for a second season ahead of its UK and US premieres. Created by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Doctor Who), the series is set in post-war London and follows Gabriel Book, a bookshop owner with a background in wartime espionage who now assists the police with unusual cases. Book, a gay man married to his longtime friend Trottie (Polly Walker), navigates a world where appearances are vital in an era when homosexuality remained illegal.
The cast also includes Elliot Levey, Buket Kömür, and Connor Finch, with a rotating lineup of guest stars across the first season. Season 1 is set to premiere in the UK on U&alibi in July 2025 and will air in the US as part of PBS’s 2025–2026 season.
Season 2 will continue the format of three two-part mysteries, promising more intrigue, period detail, and character-driven storytelling in the same richly textured post-war London setting.
