Flushing Fantastic

I had made it to the Gulf of Mexico when the call from New York came. My father, David Sung Ok Choe, had passed away.

The sky was overcast and bitterly cold along the Gulf Coast. After weeks traveling and visiting communities throughout the South, I headed back home to attend my father’s funeral. A deadly winter storm started the next day, covering much of the eastern seaboard with snow and ice. It took four days, driving 1400 miles, across ten states. The long trip home gave me time to reflect.

My relationship with my father was not easy.
