The above is an over-simplification, and surely another country or two occasionally breaks into the top 5, particularly for short durations of time, such as a few months, but when taking the long view, the EB5 market has stubbornly been confined largely to the above 5 countries. Sometimes, projects and attorneys mistakenly believe that significant volumes originate in countries such as Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, Nigeria, South Africa, UAE, Hong Kong, Turkey, Russia, Mexico etc. However, USCIS statistics, if viewed in the long term, show that none of these latter countries ranks in the top 5 for a sustained period of time. Caveat: in the distant past, prior to the entry of China as a significant source of EB5 capital, other countries such as Japan and UK have been in the top 5, but that was in a very small market when measured in investor volume. The top 5 list above has been true in the modern EB5 market, approximately since 2010.
