I once installed a whole home filtration system in a house in The Bronx and it failed within a week. We removed the filters and inspected the system. What we found was astonishing. The filter was completely clogged with a bright orangy-brown mud. We cleaned it and the system worked again for only a day or so. That’s when I first knew there was deep trouble with the Bronx pipelines. This experiment tonight just reinforces my suspicions. Try it for yourselves. Fill your tub with water- enough for bathing- put a rag over the strainer, and open the drain. See if you get rings like we did. Many people will blame old pipes in the building, but if you’re in a newer construction and get the same result, we know it’s the city pipes. Installing a spin-down filter before your whole house filter can help prevent sediments from building up and clogging your filtration system. Your caulking doesn’t have to be ugly!!!! The secret is in the prep. I thouroughly cleaned off the old caulk with a heat gun and razor. Then I washed the tile with distilled vinegar and a magic eraser. Next step, tape!
